Installation of a solar PV system enables the production of onsite electricity. This helps you lower your electricity bill and reduce your carbon footprint. There are different types of systems and ways to have Solar PV Installed the most common is on the property’s roof and this can be done by:
Pitch roof mounting - this is where the solar pv system is mounted above the roof using a rail kit which goes on top of the tiles and anchors to the solid structure beneath this is one of the most preferred methods.
Integrated roof mounting - this system is where the solar pv panels are attached to the roof structure and tiled round this kind of system is generally used on new building projects.
Flat roof/Ground mounting - this is where the solar pv panels and mounted on angled frames which are then secured to the roof or ground.
These are the different types of solar photo voltaic systems available. The type of system installed is dependent upon certain factors, including personal choice, type of building, outcome expectations etc.
Grid Connected
This is the most popular type of solar PV system for homes and businesses. Excess solar electricity produced is sold to the energy board using a connection to the local electricity network. During night time hours (non-producing) electricity is taken back from the energy network as in normal conditions.
Grid Support
This system uses the same principal as Grid Connection. However, a back- up battery is provided. Once this battery has been charged, remaining excess solar energy is sold back to the network. This solar PV system is ideal for areas which may have an unreliable power supply.
Off-Grid
Totally independent of the grid. The solar system is directly connected to a battery which stores the electricity generated and acts as the main power supply. An inverter can be used to provide AC power, enabling the use of normal appliances without mains power.
Hybrid System
Another source of power can be combined to the solar system- a biomass generator, a diesel generator etc. This will ensure a steady, reliable supply of electricity. A hybrid system can use any of the above concepts.
